ILESE-IJEBU – The Management of Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences, Ilese-Ijebu, has addressed an incident that occurred on campus yesterday, confirming that the institution’s Student Union Government (SUG) President was assaulted by a police officer during a security scuffle shortly after the Matriculation Ceremony.
In a press release signed by the Registrar, Modupe Ajala, on Friday, the Management explained that the situation began on the school field when a police officer on duty apprehended an individual who was not a student of the institution for allegedly smoking an illegal substance.
According to the statement, the SUG President intervened in an attempt to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident and contain the situation. However, in the process, he was unfortunately assaulted by the police officer.
The Management noted that the institution’s Chief Security Officer (CSO) promptly intervened and escalated the matter to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Ilese Police Station.
“The matter was subsequently addressed and resolved amicably at the police station through dialogue and mutual understanding, and normalcy was restored without further incident,” the statement read.
While condemning the act, the Polytechnic Management reiterated its commitment to protecting the dignity and safety of all members of the institution’s community.
“The Management frowns at the act and reiterates its commitment to protecting the dignity and safety of all members of the Polytechnic community as we appreciate the swift intervention of the security team in ensuring that the situation did not escalate,” the statement added.
