Ota – The contractor responsible for the reconstruction of the Ota/Idiroko Expressway, Laralek, is currently under scrutiny by the Federal Ministry of Works following an unscheduled inspection of the project site.

According to sources who spoke to VOA News, an inspection team from the Ministry visited the construction corridor around noon on Friday. The visit, which took place in the Ota area, was aimed at assessing the progress and standards of the ongoing road project.

Our source confirmed that the team raised serious concerns regarding the quality of job execution. Officials reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with the state of the road, with particular criticism leveled at the drainage systems being constructed. The inspectors allegedly questioned the integrity of the materials and workmanship, suggesting that the current standard falls short of contractual specifications.

In a development that has heightened the tension surrounding the project, the inspection team is said to have made references to the financial magnitude of the contract, citing the sum of N121 billion allocated for the reconstruction.

Sources close to the situation revealed that the principal officer of the construction company was visibly unsettled by the queries. “The construction owner panicked while being queried,” the source disclosed, adding that the contractor “may have gotten himself in fresh trouble” as a result of the ministry’s findings.

As of the time of this report, no official statement has been released by either Laralek or the Federal Ministry of Works regarding the outcome of the inspection. The development, however, has sparked concerns among local commuters and residents who have long awaited the completion of the vital economic corridor.
