In the often turbulent waters of internal party politics, where ambition frequently clashes with procedure, the ability to steer a ship smoothly to harbour is the true mark of exceptional leadership. Over the past few weeks, we in Ogun State have had the distinct privilege of witnessing such leadership firsthand. It is, therefore, with a profound sense of admiration and a deep appreciation for due process that I write to commend His Excellency, Prince Dr Dapo Abiodun CON, on the remarkably peaceful and successful conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ward, local government, and state congresses.
What we have just witnessed across the 20 Local Government Areas of Ogun State was not merely a political exercise; it was a masterclass in organisation, inclusivity, and democratic maturity. His Excellency’s distinguished leadership style provided the compass that guided the party through the complex terrain of internal elections, ensuring that the process from the ward level to the state secretariat was devoid of the rancour and acrimony that have often characterised such exercises in our nation’s political history.
Governor Abiodun’s unwavering commitment to a free, fair, and transparent process was the cornerstone of this success. In an era where “godfatherism” and imposed candidates often stifle internal democracy, His Excellency chose the path of statesmanship. He demonstrated that a leader’s strength is not measured by the imposition of will, but by the ability to foster consensus, accommodate diverse interests, and allow the collective voice of the party members to prevail. The seamless manner in which he guided the party through the entire nomination process speaks volumes about his dedication to the principles of fairness and equity—principles that are the bedrock of the progressive ideology we hold dear.
The successful emergence of party executives at all levels is a direct reflection of the enabling environment created by the Governor. His personal assurance and involvement guaranteed that stakeholders felt heard, that the rules of engagement were respected, and that the outcome truly reflected the wishes of the party faithful. This approach has not only solidified APC’s position as the party of choice in Ogun State but has also strengthened the very foundation of our party, ensuring that we enter future elections more united and formidable than ever before.
For those of us serving on the front lines of governance, particularly my colleagues in the Council of Governor Liaison Officers (GLO), this process has been particularly instructive. It has reinforced the template for effective mobilisation and stakeholder management. His Excellency’s proactive and visionary approach serves as a beacon, proving that good governance begins within the party structure itself. When internal party processes are clean, the resultant governance is more likely to be transparent and people-oriented.
On behalf of the entire Council of Governor Liaison Officers, and indeed on behalf of all progressives who value the sanctity of internal democracy, I extend our most sincere congratulations to His Excellency, Prince Dr Dapo Abiodun CON. Your exemplary leadership has elevated the political landscape of Ogun State and set a commendable precedent for other states to emulate.
In the same vein, I extend my warmest congratulations to the re-elected Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, and the entire 35-member Ogun State APC Executive Committee. I also celebrate all the newly elected Ward and Local Government party executives. Your emergence through this transparent process is a victory for democracy. I have no doubt that you will justify the confidence reposed in you by working tirelessly to complement the Governor’s vision for a prosperous Ogun State.
As we move forward, we remain steadfast in our support for your administration. We are confident that with this same level of dedication, unity, and visionary guidance, Ogun State is on an irreversible trajectory toward greater progress, prosperity, and inclusive governance.
Once again, congratulations, Your Excellency. We salute your commitment to a rancour-free party and a greater Ogun State.
