ABEOKUTA – The Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, has extended his warmest congratulations to a distinguished elder statesman and former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, on the occasion of his 89th birthday, March 5, 2026.
In a statement personally signed by the Senator, he described Chief Obasanjo as a rare gem and a quintessential leader whose unique trajectory of service—having governed Nigeria both as a military Head of State and later as a civilian President—remains an unparalleled feat in the nation’s history.
“Baba, your life remains an enduring testament to patriotic service and resilience. You are one of the few Nigerians who have had the rare opportunity to shape the nation’s destiny at two critical junctures: first in uniform and later in civilian attire. Your contributions to the entrenchment of democracy and the unity of our fatherland are indelible,” the Senator stated.
Senator Salisu praised the former President for his continued role as a voice of wisdom and a bridge-builder across the continent, noting that his statesmanship extends far beyond Nigeria’s borders.
“I join your family, friends, and the good people of Ogun State—particularly our home, Ogun Central—in giving thanks to the Almighty for your life. We pray for many more years of good health, strength, and sound mind as you continue to counsel the younger generation and contribute to national discourse,” he added.
The lawmaker wished Chief Obasanjo a blissful celebration surrounded by loved ones.
